Hyrox has exploded in popularity, but one of the most overlooked parts of training for it isn't the workouts, it's what you eat around them. Nutrition for Hyrox sits in a strange middle ground: you need endurance-athlete levels of carbohydrate availability, but also strength-athlete levels of protein to protect muscle through sled pushes, carries, and lunges. Get it wrong, and you'll either run out of fuel mid-race or show up too depleted to hit your numbers on the stations.


This guide pulls together the practical approaches used by experienced Hyrox athletes and coaches, covering everything from daily macros to race-week strategy. None of this is medical advice, it's a synthesis of real, tested practices, and what works will vary from person to person. Think of it as a well-informed starting point to experiment from, not a rigid prescription.


The Big Picture: Four Things to Get Right


Before diving into numbers, it helps to think about nutrition for Hyrox in four buckets:

Weighing in only once a week can create a misleading "pass/fail" feeling on a single data point, when in reality body weight fluctuates constantly based on hydration, digestion, and training load. 7. Race Week and Race Day Fueling


In the final days and hours before a Hyrox event:


  • The day before: add roughly an extra 50–75g of carbohydrate to your normal intake. Full marathon-style carb-loading generally isn't necessary for an event in the 60–90 minute range, focus on quality, familiar foods rather than a large departure from your normal diet.
